You should schedule a routine dental cleaning (Prophylaxis) bi-annually. During this visit, one of our dental hygienists will remove tartar (mineralized plaque) from your teeth, especially from places where your brush can’t, such as underneath the gum line and in-between teeth. We will also perform scaling and polishing and debridement if too much tartar is present. This procedure involves the use of different instruments or devices to loosen and remove deposits from the teeth.
We recommend you receive a professional cleaning at least every 4-6 months. However, more frequent cleanings may be needed when you are receiving treatment for a dental or oral disorder. You should schedule a routine exam at least every year. This exam may include select dental X-rays.
In between professional cleanings, proper oral hygiene is necessary for preventing cavities, periodontal disease and tartar build-up.
